Quail Eggs

As I'm sure you have all heard by now... (this post is a little late)... we are hatching quail eggs in the classroom.  We have a total of 15 eggs.
There are several responsibilities that come with hosting the quail eggs.  First, we have to make sure that incubator remains at a constant 100 degrees.  The eggs need to remain warm.  Secondly, we have to make sure that the air inside the incubator is at the right humidity.  In order to do this, we have to make sure that the trough in the bottom of the incubator is constantly full of water.  Next, we have to make sure that we rotate the eggs, at least twice a day, to ensure that all  sides are equally warm.  (Once a day on the weekends) Finally, we have to follow a schedule and candle the eggs, to see if the baby quails inside are developing.

I think that the students have really enjoyed having the quail eggs so far... And the BEST part is yet to come!!  The quails are scheduled to start "pipping" out of their shells anytime now.  Some of the quails could even hatch over the weekend. (No worries, Miss Davis will be stopping by the school, each day, to check on them).  By next Wednesday, all the quails should be out of their shells.  We will be able to enjoy their company for a couple short days before I have to return them on Friday.

I apparently forgot my camera at school.... but I will have pictures up soon!
