ImaginOn Field Trip

On October 30th, we will travel to ImaginOn in downtown Charlotte to see a play.  The cost of the trip is $9.00.  Students need to be at school on time. We will leave school promptly at 8:30am. We will return to school for lunch so students will not need a bag lunch.  Please sign and return permission slips as soon as possible.

All field trip money is due on October 10th.

FIELD TRIP THURSDAY!

This Thursday, May 1st, is our field trip to Mountain Island State National Forest.  Please make sure students are at school on time.  We will be leaving the school at 8:30am and returning about 1:30pm.  Students will need to bring a bag lunch.  Everything needs to be disposable! On Wednesday, students will be bringing home a gallon sized Ziplock bag with their name on it.  Please place their lunch and drink inside this bag.

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR TENNIS SHOES!!

We will be doing lots of walking.

Continent Study

For our continent study I used Edmodo to help create an assignment for each of my students to learn more about the continents we were studying.  Students went to Trueflix and watched a video about the continent and then read a book on that continent.  Then they used Linoit to tell me one thing that was the same and one thing that was different between the continents we had studied.

Telling Time...

During Math small groups, students had the opportunity to play a game using the SMARTboard on time.  Students were divided into pairs.  On each player's turn, they had to either read the time on the clock or set the hands on the clock to the correct time.  Student's really enjoyed this interactive learning.

Solids and Liquids

Ice Cream

In March, to bring our Science unit of Matter to an end, students got the opportunity to make ice cream in class one Friday.  We had a blast!  The students enjoyed it so much, that I promised that I would add the directions on our blog, so that they could make it at home as well.

Making Ice Cream

Materials Needed:
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1 gallon size resealable bag
- 1 quart size resealable bag
- 1/2 cup of table salt, ice cream salt or kosher salt
- 5 cups of ice
- spoon or straw for enjoying :-)

Directions:
1.  In the small bag, place the milk, sugar, and vanilla.  Squeeze out any excess air and seal the bag.
2.  Shake the bag to mix the ingredients.
3.  Place the small bag inside the large bag.
4.  Add ice and salt to the large bag.  Squeeze out any excess air and seal the bag.
5.  DOUBLE CHECK that the large bag is sealed!
6.  Shake the bag vigorously.  Place one hand on top of the bag and one hand at the base of the bag.   Shake for about 6-8 minutes.

When you open the bag, be sure not to get salt water in the small bag.  You may want to rinse off the small bag before opening.

7.  ENJOY!
