Homework

Students will have homework every night, Monday through Thursday.

Each night they will use their spelling words to complete at least one activity from the spelling menu.  If your student wishes, they can do more than one activity each night. The spelling activity needs to be done on notebook paper, with the STUDENT's NAME and CLASS NUMBER at the top.  Spelling homework is to be turned in daily.

Students are also expected to read for 20 minutes each night.  I have made a class set of "baggy books" that students can bring home to read during this time.  They DO NOT have to read one of my books.  They can read their library book, a book from home, or any book that they wish. Students are responsible for making sure they have something to read.
If your child forgets to switch their "baggy book" or has already read their library book, they can reread it.  They do not have to have a new book each night.  Reading the same book a second time will only help them with their reading fluency.

Math homework is decided by our new math curriculum and the way it is paced.  It will not be given every night.  As teachers, we are required by the county to follow the new curriculum.  We normally do not give any homework on weekends, but there may be a time or two when we send a math worksheet home on Friday. When students have math homework, it will normally be a worksheet, and it will be placed in their homework folder.  I will also try to have the students write "math" on their behavior calendar as well.
